Description
Our furniture for Creede Repertory Theatre's production of Arsenic and Old Lace will be something like this test piece; the Victorian furniture is going "goth" or maybe even steampunk. Should be fun! I did this over the furniture inventory image the Props master sent me. Photoshop.

One of the reasons I like set/stage design is the use of illusion. That may not be the right word. Almost certainly not the technical one.
A very talented artist, a student a grade behind me in high school, unintentionally introduced me to the art and craft of creating complex walls, draperies, whatever, on flat pieces of material. We were working on different aspects of a student production at the time, when I had an opportunity to see the first few steps of the process.
Ever since - about a half-century now - I have remained impressed at how a remarkably simple set of brush strokes can create an impression of complex forms.
